March Madness
I love college basketball and I really love March Madness. I love March Madness even more when my favorite team, the Kentucky Wildcats, have gotten an invite to the Big Dance. This year’s #1 seed, well that’s just some crazy happiness in my world.
So it should come as no surprise that Alaina has some UK gear. What is surprising about it, is I found her UK onesie at Rhea Lana’s a couple of weeks ago. Whoever put the Wildcats outfit on the rack — you’re my new friend.
Alaina first donned her Wildcat pride on Saturday when Kentucky played Tennessee in the SEC tourney. While I’m not certain her cuteness spurred them to victory, they did win 75-45. The next day against Mississippi State, Alaina wasn’t in her UK duds and they squeaked by 75-74 in overtime.
Hmm, I guess I’d better get her outfit in the wash STAT, the tournament starts today.

Wordless Wednesday
Just some cute random pics.

Alaina laughs -- I don't know why she is laughing, but that is definitely what is happening in this picture

Alaina’s Project Runway moment
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about Project Runway’s kid challenge. At the time, there was an outfit hanging in Alaina’s closet that I thought of as her most Project Runway-worth ensemble.
On Sunday, she wore it to church. How adorable is this little hoodie dress? I just loved it on her.
P.S. Nope, I’m not completely obsessed with clothes — I just totally love dressing my kid.

Duck Duck Goose
The Family Way’s Heidi and I are going to be manning the LRMamas booth at Duck Duck Goose on Saturday morning. Stop by and see us. I’ve been told we’ll have prizes and such to give away — YAY! I love being the bearer of goodies!
I’ve never been to Duck Duck Goose, so I’m looking forward to it. I love shopping! I’m going to try and restrain myself though. I stocked up on clothes for Alaina a couple of weeks ago, so I don’t think she’s really wanting for anything. But surely an outfit or two wouldn’t hurt, right?
Hope to see ya there!

Ginger will get it
We discovered the other day that our puggle Ginger is a fan of breast milk. Hmm, I think I’m disturbed by this fact…
Matt was labeling a couple of bottles of expressed milk that I had brought home from work when he accidentally knocked one off the counter. For some reason, the lid cracked and milk went everywhere. *Just for the record — he was waaaaay more upset about it than I was — maybe I’m closing in on that Mommy Zenness.
So he grabs some paper towels and wipes up the mess.
But apparently there was some essence of breast milk left. So Ginger started licking the floor. She did this for the next 3-4 minutes. Ewww and ewww. But it was funny, so I took some pictures.
Wordless Wednesday
Alaina has been loving her Exersaucer. Thanks Heidi (In the Family Way) for letting us borrow Ava’s old one.
- What is all this?
- Teehee, its fun!
- So much fun!!
- Playing is hard work — I’m ready for a nap

Solids report
I am pleased to report that Alaina is rocking the solid foods. We got off to a slow start with rice cereal — she didn’t seem to be a fan. Sweet potatoes went much better, followed by bananas and now peas. She even ate peas at day care yesterday and Mrs. Toni was shocked at how well she was doing with the whole eating business.
Ahh, I love my child. She may not be motivated on the movement front, but give her food and she’s there. She is definitely her mama’s daughter.
Wordless Wednesday
Aunt Sonda brought Alaina the cutest hat the other day. I just love the little stem.

Having it all is hard
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get very Americanized tunnel vision. I tend to think that trying to juggle marriage, kids and work is unique to the good ole USA. It isn’t, but it is easy to think that, especially when so many European countries actually pay moms to stay home with their children.
So I found this Washington Post story about women in South Korea to be a real eye-opener. The Post reports that more women there are putting off marriage and childbirth because they can’t deal with everyone’s expectations of how to be a good employee, a good wife, a good mother and a good daughter-in-law.
Isn’t it amazing the amount of stress and guilt we women place on ourselves and on other women? Reading about Hwang Myoung-eun’s mother-in-law made me so grateful for Matt’s mom — she is a dear!
This article also made me wonder how the rest of you balance things? What do you stress over? What do you just let go?

My new do
So a couple of weeks ago, I asked for help in deciding what to do with my do. Lots of my friends weighed in on the issue and last weekend, I finally got my hair cut. I didn’t realize how long my hair had gotten until I saw the mounds of hair on the floor. Oops!
Moody Mom has been after me to get a picture posted, so here it is.

Yavonda Chase is the international editor for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. She and her husband, an English instructor at Pulaski Technical College, have just welcomed their first child, an adorable little girl, into the world. Two cats, Shadow and Chloe, and a puggle named Ginger round out their North Little Rock household.
